The Perspective of Faith

The title of this column is “Faith Perspectives”. I want to turn it around 180 degrees and share about “The Perspective of Faith”. Faith looks at things differently. Faith is much more than just believing. It has a unique perspective that is essential to the Christian Life.

Hebrews 11:1 tells us “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith is the substance of things HOPED for. Hope in the New Testament is always used in positive expectation of good things. You don’t hope for bad things. You only hope for good things. Hope is always positive.

In Algebra’s Transitive Property of Equality… if A=B and B=C, then A=C. Apply that simple logic to faith. 1- Hope is always positive. 2- Faith is the substance of things hoped for. 3- Therefore, Faith is always positive.

The Christian Faith is inherently a belief system in God that is always positive. Faith is always positive. But it is not just a positive attitude. Faith isn’t just another type of positive psychology. Faith is much more. Faith is positive because of the goodness of God and the promises of God.

The positive Christian Faith is so much more than just a mindset. Faith is the basis for a relationship with God Himself! Faith is positive because it is connected to the Living God!

The Holy Bible continues to reveal about faith in Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

To please God, you need positive faith. Being a “negative Christian” is actually an oxymoron. God doesn’t want you to be living out your life in the wasteland of negativity. He wants you to experience His fullness that is found in a relationship with Him.

The verse reveals two things that you need to come to God. First, you need to believe that He is. Most people have no problem with that. But the second thing you need is to also believe that “He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” God is good God. The One True God is revealed in the Holy Scriptures as a rewarding God. I have certainly come to know Him that way.

God wants you to come with a positive expectation of His goodness. He wants to establish a personal relationship with YOU! He wants to be involved in your everyday life. As a pastor, I share and care with this positive expectation of faith. In this increasingly negative world, we need more people of positive faith. I’d love to hear if this encouraged you.
