Use Your Superpower!

Early this year, before the Covid crisis hit, I shared about a new Superpower. Instead of the Superman “S” symbol, I encouraged everyone to wear a “Z” symbol. We had iron-on patches and reminders to use the Superpower of “Z”. What is that you say? The “Z” stands for Zechariah, the young prophet in the Old Testament who was known as the Prophet of ENCOURAGEMENT.

Zechariah means “Yahweh remembers”. He remembers for the good. He hasn’t forgotten you or His promises. Just by his name, Zechariah encouraged people to have faith in the promises of God after returning from captivity in Babylon.

Zechariah is a book of encouragement. In the midst of discouragement and setbacks, Zechariah called on the people to rebuild God’s work and walk in positive faith. He encouraged them to expect great things by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We are finally returning from the captivity of Covid. Vaccines are now being distributed. An end is in sight. A new year awaits us. It is time to rebuild. And YOU need to use your superpower of encouragement to help make it happen.

2020 has been incredibly hard on people. Death has been prevalent without the chance to properly mourn. Unemployment and financial hardship hit too many. Depression, anxiety and suicide remain as part of the looming mental health crisis. People need encouragement. You can be the encourager!

You may not realize you have this superpower. However, if you are a Christian, you have the superpower of encouragement. But, you need to tap into the resource of the Holy Spirit to use it.

In my article of Faith Perspectives on August 8th, I shared with you the Perspective of Faith. Faith is always positive (Hebrews 11:1,6). Being a “negative Christian” is actually an oxymoron. God desires to awaken within you the superpower of encouragement that is inherent in faith.

This encouragement is not simply hyping things up. It isn’t secular positive thinking. True encouragement is rooted in the promises and goodness of God. Zechariah 4:6 says “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty.”

The superpower of encouragement isn’t by natural strength or working yourself up. It comes by God’s Holy Spirit. If you are a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit already residing in you. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to use you as a vessel of encouragement.

You can speak the words of encouragement that are so desperately needed. Look for the good. Emphasize the positive. Believe for the best. Speak life. Inspire faith. People need encouragement now, more than ever. Covid has left people DIScouraged. They need courage; the courage to try again, the courage to rebuild. They need YOU to ENcourage them. I asked our Family Worship Center family to contact and encourage at least one person a day for seven days. Will you accept the Encouragement Challenge? You can email me at drmark920@gmail.com
